Job Summary
Curro Holdings is seeking to appoint a high school senior phase teacher at Windhoek Gymnasium in Namibia. The role involves teaching and coordinating a range of subjects as per the Curro and Cambridge curricula for the senior phase. The teacher is responsible for the active teaching, knowledge transfer, skills development and growth of positive attitudes among learners through integrated and focused teaching approaches.
Job Description

Planning          

  • Review and break year plan into terms
  • Plan around exams, assessments, and school activities – Scheme of Work
  • Combine CURRO, and grade requirements into planning as related to school and unique needs
  • Set up the demarcation for each assessment during the term as per the grade
  • Monitor and adjust planning throughout the term as per unforeseen events
  • Monitor of learner’s unique circumstances and plan according
  • Creation of differentiated materials to accommodate barriers to learning
  • Stay informed on new teaching methods and changes to the curriculum

 

Planning and own class management     

  • Plan and set up assessment roster for the term
  • Learners should receive the assessment dates well in advance
  • Set up the demarcation for each assessment during the term as per the grade
  • Monitor and adjust planning throughout the term as per unforeseen events
  • Set up and design of classroom / Learning Area for optimal performance of class and based on specific needs
  • Setting of rules and boundaries to manage discipline, help with general discipline
  • Communication and relationship building with pupils and parents (newsletters, sporting letters, outings letters, WhatsApp messages etc.)

 

Assessment process and homework management       

  • Setting and moderation (pre and post) of assessments including formal (FAT) and continuous (CAS)
  • The correct upload of marks on Synergy
  • Prepare revision packs, notes, and lessons
  • Active invigilation of assessments
  • Marking and moderation of assessments within specified time
  • Return of assessments and class correction and revising on topics
  • Planning of homework including a learner work schedule
  • Monitor homework and signed assessments

 

Teaching          

  • Take attendance registers every morning
  • Measured Academic Achievement
  • Measured Academic Improvement
  • Plan lessons to be interactive and creative
  • Represent lessons with enthusiasm
  • Make use of modern days tools and processes
  • Managing the teaching pace based on the learners
  • Set up workbooks as per specifications
  • Make sure that learners are aware of events, homework etc.
  • Foster good relationships between yourself and the learners
  • Handle all learners fairly and with respect

 

Extramural coordination and activities   

  • Plan and manage assigned extramural activities
  • Attend practices and sporting fixtures
  • Take attendance registers
  • Attendance at school activities as assigned by Head of School– At least 1 activity (6-8 hours per week)
  • Manage outings and attend Phase and grade meetings

 

Extra lessons / Tutoring       

  • Prepare extra lessons and create new learning materials
  • Manage makeup lessons for class and individuals
  • Remedial work for learners not coping with certain topics
  • Provide one on one tutor support
  • Identification of learners that are need of extra lessons and recommend attendance at extra lessons / tutoring
  • Maintain register of extramural attendance and records of learner’s results
Key Skills / Requirements
  • B ED / Post Graduate Certificate of Education
  • Honours in teaching focus area
  • Must have Cambridge Curriculum experience
  • Must be SACE registered
  • Teacher of Senior Phase 2 years
